About|Patient Prep|F.A.Q.Patient Preparation
Excellent bowel preparation is critical for obtaining excellent diagnostic results. You will need to come to Advanced Diagnostic Radiology to pick up the prep kit. Please note that the prep must be started 2 days prior to your exam, so picking up your prep early is highly recommended. There is no charge for prep kit.
Summary of Colon Preparation:
2 DAYS BEFORE EXAM:
- 8:00 am Eat a light meal (see diet guidelines).
- 12:00 pm Eat a light meal.
- 6:00 pm Dinner All clear liquids. Drink at least 8 oz clear liquids (see clear liquid guidelines).
- Bedtime Drink ½ 450 mL bottle of Ready CAT barium.
1 DAY BEFORE EXAM:
- 8:00 am Breakfast all clear liquids.
- 9:00 am Drink at least 8 oz. clear liquids.
- 10:00 am Drink at least 8 oz. clear liquids.
- 11:00 am Drink at least 8 oz. clear liquids.
- 12:00 pm Lunch all clear liquids.
- 2:00 pm Take ½ 10 oz. bottle of Magnesium Citrate (Liquiprep)
- 3:00 pm Drink at least 8 oz. of clear liquids.
- 4:00 pm Drink at least 8 oz. of clear liquids.
- 5:00 pm Drink at least 8 oz. of clear liquids.
- 6:00 pm Dinner all clear liquids. Drink remaining ½ bottle of
- Ready CAT barium.
- 7:00 pm Take 4 Fleet Bisacodyl tablets (see bisacodyl tablet
- instructions).
- Bedtime Mix approximately ¼ of the 120mL bottle of Gastroview or the 1 container of Hypaque powder with fruit juice and drink at bedtime.
MORNING OF EXAM:
- DO NOT EAT BREAKFAST .
- 2 hours prior to your appointment, mix ¼ bottle of Gastroview or 1 container of Hypaque powder with fruit juice and drink.
- 1 hour prior to your appointment insert the fleet biscodyl suppository (see suppository instructions).
- Discard the remaining ½ bottle of Gastroview.
